DOUBLE DOOR STUDIOS AND GALLERY

Peter Adams Lonely Avenue–and Some Minor Deviations.
Working in oils for twenty five years, Peter Adams has painted portraits as well as urban landscapes.  He has developed his own distinctive and expressive style and is now mostly inspired by the dramatic rural landscape that surrounds him.  He is drawn to the interplay between order and chaos, grace and tragedy, mystery and clarity.  Often exploring the symbiotic and regenerative powers of the natural world, he is especially interested in the realm in which human and natural worlds meet - both in harmony and in opposition.

Lectures

The Annual CARMICHAEL CANADIAN ART LECTURE takes place May 10 at 7:30 pm at Swanmore Hall on the grounds of the Stephen Leacock Museum.

This is the Orillia Museum of Art & History’s eighth annual celebration of the way that Canadian artists have shaped Canadians' perception of us, our land, our history and our cultural identity.
Guest Speaker, Dennis Reid, will share the updated research for the new 3rd edition of his authoritative 1973 text "A Concise History of Canadian Painting."
With the passage of forty years of changes in the art world Canadian artists have come to portray our land and society differently. How should we understand Canada as painters envision it? How can the ancient art of painting compete against dynamic new media - installation art, digital art and video, politically symbolic performance art? Can artistic icons from earlier cultural times hold their former prominent place in popular esteem?
Information is available on their website www.orilliamuseum.org or by phone 705-326-2159
