Norman Robert Catchpole is a self-taught artist, with an inclination towards realism. He reconnected with his creative side in January of 2020 after a forty-year hiatus, and now utilizes acrylics as they provide him with an opportunity to proceed at a faster pace than oils.
He prefers large format scale, intense, bright colours and interesting subject matter. Norman and his wife RuthAnn travel extensively which offers him an opportunity to collect future subject matter. He utilizes photographs (hard copy and digital) and prior to commencing a project he researches his subjects to get an understanding of them on a visual, intellectual and emotional level. With rocker portraits he immerses himself in their music and watches documentaries.
His work has been exhibited at various venues in Orillia (Orillia Fine Arts, Hibernation Arts, Orillia Opera House), Collingwood, Thornbury and Toronto.
Please contact Norman directly to discuss a commission or to visit his studio and/or gallery. Commissions welcome.
To sum it up, I'm "Big on Color. Big on canvas. Big on Life."
