Laurie Herd is a self-taught painter and mixed media collage artist who lives and works in Orillia Ontario. Herd's paintings are inspired by the natural environment, including those found in the local area, as well as other Canadian settings she has visited. Herd's camera is her primary tool to capture reference images to paint or for inspiration while working in water colour, acrylic or oil paint. Mixed media collage pieces often tell a story or infer a theme or meaning and utilize repurposed found objects or paper pieces and paint.
Growing up in a family of makers and participation in performance art over the years have influenced Herd's art making through the exploration of colour, texture, shape, pattern and rhythm while Impressionist painting techniques have influenced Herd's painting style.
Herd has shown her work in galleries in Orillia and Midland Ontario.
