Memory serves me that my passion for collecting rocks started around age eight.
The stones that I caught my attention with colour and texture filled my pockets.
My interest in stones never left me but instead grew with me. It morphed from filling.
my pockets to filling a trailer with the same type of stones that as a child I had admired
only now they are so much larger and heavier.
I am a stone worker / artist in Granite Erratic (earth tumbled) Glacial Stone.
These are stones that have been "earth tumbled" throughout the ice ages resulting in
a rounding and softening of the stone edges. The mystery and allure of these erratic
stones is what inspires me to leave some of the characteristics intact, as a
live (living) edge.
Experimenting and taking risks best describes my journey as there is no easy way to
reduce the shape of hard erratic stones. Marrying precision polishing and
live-edge texture, I am led to allow the full character of the stone to emerge and
present itself.
While I experiment with the possibilities of the form that exists in these stones,
my calling, passion and energy is fueled by what is calling me to release a
sculpted form. I am on a journey of discovering and releasing my talent and sharing
the one-of-a-kind stories that the glacial erratic wish to tell.
Glacial Erratic - Glaciers can pick up chunks of rocks and transport them over long distances. When they drop these rocks, they are often far from their origin—the outcrop or bedrock from which they were plucked. These rocks are known as glacial erratic, the documentation or story of a glacier's travels.
