As a society we are all affected by our mental health. Creating art can help ease depression, anxiety, and foster a sense of well-being. The act of creation can be a tool that helps us gain control over and manage difficult emotions to attain more positive outcomes. The Orillia & District Arts Council has collaborated with Community Mental Health Services, which provides counseling treatment and community support to individuals with a serious mental illness and is located in Orillia Soldier's Memorial Hospital. The Hospital sponsors The Meeting Place, a consumer-run, social-recreational and peer support program located in downtown Orillia. This club house style facility provides social recreational activities for members connected to community mental health. The general public are welcome and encouraged to drop into this open house venue to view art, perhaps doodle on paper themselves, sing some songs and learn about available mental health services. We will be adhering to all COVID-19 protocols in effect from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit at event time, including limited capacity.
